Viruses in control of the immune system

چکیده
Viruses have evolved strategies to evade the inflammatory and immune responses that their hosts have co-evolved to limit viral impact on reproductive fitness (Alcami and Koszinowski, 2000; Tortorella et al., 2000). The number of viral immune evasion strategies identified has increased dramatically in recent years. These rely on proteins that mimic or target specific components of the immune system or that prevent immune recognition of virally infected cells. We are only just beginning to comprehend the subtleties of virus–host interactions, which is of obvious importance for the understanding of viral pathogenesis. This workshop brought together scientists who view the interactions between viruses and host defence mechanisms from different perspectives. The aim was to discuss strategies of immune modulation employed by viruses, focusing primarily on two large DNA virus families—herpesviridae and poxviridae— whose members are particularly adept at manipulating immunity, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which is highly successful in modifying the immune system despite its smaller genome (Table I). Particular emphasis was placed on gleaning insights into the normal functions of the immune system based on the viral immunomodulatory effects. We are rapidly approaching a time when we will be able to apply this knowledge to design better vaccines and treatments for viral infections and autoimmune diseases.

Medicinal Plants Effective in the Prevention and Control of Coronaviruses
Background and Aim: Coronaviruses often cause acute complications in the respiratory system with cold-like symptoms. A number of them, such as Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) have killed thousands of people and have caused epidemics and pandemics. This review study aims to investigate the most common medicinal...

Background and Aims: Influenza vaccine production process is time-consuming with little-to-no cross-protection which requires annual adjustment. The construction of a universal vaccine to deal with the pandemics and epidemics which occasionally threat human population is the aim of many researches worldwide. Today, influenza vaccines are mostly against two major antigenic proteins, hemagglutini...
متن کاملHow to Boost Your Immune System Against Corona-virus Infection?
New emerging viruses like coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) infections are always frightening. We know little about theirtransmission, behaviors, clinical manifestations, and outcomes. There is no vaccine or therapeutic strategies to dealwith these infections yet. In this situation, preventive measures may be promising. Hand hygiene is a very importantissue in preventing viral infec...

The spread of influenza viruses in multiple bird and mammalian species is a worldwide serious threat to human and animal populations' health and raise major concern for ongoing pandemic in humans. Direct transmission of the avian viruses which have sialic acid specific receptors similar to human influenza viruses are a warning to the emergence of a new mutant strain that is likely to share mole...
متن کاملThe Effect of SB431542, TGF-β Receptor Inhibitor, on HCV Replication in PBMCs of Patients with Chronic Hepatitis
Background and Aims: TGF-β is an effective cytokine in the viral replication cycle, which is also highly relevant to the pathogenesis of some viral infections. TGF-β induction by viral proteins is one of the ways to escape the virus from the immune system by inhibiting interferon signaling and other immune system factors. In recent years, the role of TGF-β and its inhibitor...

Viruses are dominant entities in the biosphere and parasitize all cellular life forms. The relative abundances of different classes of viruses are dramatically different between prokaryotes and eukaryotes. In marine, soil and animal-associated environments, virus particles consistently outnumber cells by one to two orders of magnitude. It is estimated that 10 quintillion (1030) viral particles ...
